Eastbourne, Sussex Coast

Eastbourne, one of Britain's most popular resorts, is sheltered by Beachy Head and is well known as 'the sun trap of the South'.

The elegant seafront invites you to take a leisurely stroll past the magnificent Carpet Gardens, the centrepiece of this resort, whilst the town boasts a fine shopping centre. There are over 200 acres of parks and gardens to enjoy and some quiet secluded beaches where you can sit and relax.

Day 1:

Morning collection from home to join the coach for the journey south. We make an early lunch stop before making an included afternoon visit to Bateman's, a beautiful Jacobean house which was Rudyard Kipling's family home for over 30 years. Later we continue to Eastbourne and our hotel by late afternoon.

Day 2:

An excursion into the Cuckmere Valley to visit the pretty downland village of Alfriston, with many half-timbered buildings, before continuing along the Sussex Coast to the Regency resort of Brighton. Brighton is renowned for its quirky shops, cosmopolitan outlook and contemporary architecture along with its more traditional Regency buildings.

Day at leisure in Eastbourne.

Day 4:

An excursion inland to Sheffield Park Gardens, the internationally renowned landscaped gardens and parkland, laid out in the 18th century by Capability Brown. We also include a ride on the Bluebell Railway, a heritage line running between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead along the East and West Sussex border.

Day 5:

We depart Eastbourne after breakfast for a scenic morning drive along the Sussex coast passing Hastings to a local vineyard where we include a wine tasting, cup of tea or coffee and slice of cake. We continue to Rye where we have time to obtain lunch (not included), before the return drive to East Anglia arriving home late afternoon.

Cavendish Hotel, Eastbourne

The Cavendish, named after the 7th Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish, is a majestic hotel commanding a superb seafront position on Eastbourne’s Grand Parade opposite the historic bandstand. The hotel enjoys a reputation for fine food and wine in its magnificent Marine Restaurant where we dine at leisure, while the sun lounge and Coronet Bar offer views of the beach. All bedrooms have private facilities, satellite TV, radio, hairdryer, trouser press and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel also has a lift to all floors.
