Black Forest Christmas Markets

Day 1

Travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. From Calais we travel through France and into Germany making suitable refreshment stops and arrive at our hotel in the Black Forest in time to freshen up before the evening meal.

Day 2

After breakfast we visit Strasbourg. "the Capital of Christmas" in Alsace. The Strasbourg Christams market in France is the oldest market in the country, dating back to 1570. Every year, from the last week in November to the end of December, the town gets taken over by all things Christmassy. Shop windows are transformed into winter wonderlands and the streets are decorated with twinkling lights and festive garlands. The Strasbourg Christmas market spreads out across the centre of the town, focused around Cathedral square and Place Broglie where hundreds of stalls sell ornaments, toys, food and mulled wine to keep us warm as we browse.

Day 3

After breakfast join our driver for a visit to Riquewihr, one of the most beautiful villages in Alsace. With its charming half-timbered houses, quaint shops and picturesque setting, we'll be carried away by the Christmas magic in this wonderful town. Afterwards we depart for Gengenbach. Take a stroll through the magnificently decorated historic city centre and marvel at the daily opening of the world's biggest Advent calendar house. Explore little alleyways and listen to the beautiful sounds of the choirs and take in the sights, smells and sounds of Christmas time in Gengenbach.

Day 4

After breakfast visit Freiburg, the historic city centre for one of the most popular Christmas markets in the south of Germany. Time to purchase lunch before returning to the hotel via a scenic journey through the Black Forest.

Day 5

After breakfast return to Calais making suitable comfort stops, for the return Eurotunnel crossing to Folkestone. Arrive back to home area early evening.
