Day 1
Morning collection from your home to join the coach for the drive to Yorkshire. We arrive at our hotel during the late afternoon.
DDay 2
This morning we begin with a drive to the pleasant North Yorkshire market town of Settle. We have a little free time before enjoying an included ride on the Settle and Carlisle Railway, considered to be one of England’s most scenic rail journeys. We join the diesel train for the journey to Kirkby Stephen, crossing the famous Ribblehead viaduct and stopping at Dent, the highest mainline station in England. We rejoin our coach for the short journey into Hawes, where wehave opportunity to purchase lunch. Later we continue along Wensleydale past Aysgarth to Leyburn and join the Wensleydale Railway, a unique and exciting project to one of the east-west rail links of the past. We travel on the first section of line to be re-opened, a journey of about 40 minutes.
Day 3
Today we head along the Aire Valley to Skipton - ‘Gateway to the Dales’. The main street houses the well known market and Skipton Castle stands proudlyat the top of the street. Why not take a stroll around the town before we enjoy an included cruise on one of the country’s best known inland waterways. From Skipton we make our way to Haworth, where little has changed since the famous Bronte sisters and their notorious brother lived at the Parsonage. Later we enjoy a steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley and see the locations used in the film ‘The Railway Children’.
D, EBDay 4
Our journey today begins with a visit to Bolton Abbey. The Abbey and ruined Priory are set in a beautiful and tranquil location alongside the River Wharfe. We have time for a stroll through this beautiful landscape, part of the Duke of Devonshire’s estate, before making the short journey to Bolton Abbey Station for an included train ride to Embsay. Rejoining our coach, we continue through the beautiful Dales scenery, visiting the village of Grassington with its cobbled street, diminutive market place and its many quaint byways and alleyways.
