Kynren - An Epic Tale of England

Kynren - An Epic Tale of England

Join us on this new, interesting and unique tour, combining visits to the historic and beautiful City of Durham and Bishop Auckland’s live action extravaganza, the mesmerising show that takes you on a whistle stop tour of 2,000 years of history, myth and legend.

Now in its third year, Kynren - An Epic Tale of England has become a spectacular event for groups to attend.

The live action story uses the latest theatrical techniques to animate 2,000 years of English history, with special reference to the north-east of England. The pageant is set against the backdrop of the impressive Bishop Auckland Castle in County Durham and breathtaking special effects fill the performance with spectacular sets that appear as if by magic and outstanding choreography.

New features for this year include giant waterjet ballet sequences, pyro and lighting projections and bold new stunts will see horses jumping over fire and dragging a Roman along the ground at speed. New scenes include a WWII commemoration of the RAF and rousing moments of modern history such as Queen Elizabeth II's coronation and England winning the 1966 World Cup.

Day 1

We depart local pick up points for the journey north to our hotel in Darlington, where we have time to relax before our evening meal.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast, we journey to the cathedral City of Durham. Here we join the Prince Bishops River Cruise, an interesting and relaxing cruise around Durham’s waterways, giving a unique perspective on its special cityscape.

After your cruise, you are free to spend the remainder of the day in Durham. As our show is early evening, we suggest purchasing dinner in Durham. We then travel to Bishop Auckland where we join Kynren - an epic tale of England. Taking place on a vast landscaped stage with a huge lake at its centre hiding a host of surprises, you’ll meet many of the characters and events that have shaped England. With 29 scenes encompassing the Roman occupation to World War II, history will unfold in front of your eyes, thanks to a cast and crew of almost 1,500 performing on a immense open air stage. The scale of the show must be seen to be believed.

Day 3

After breakfast we head for beautiful spa town of Harrogate. We continue our return journey arriving in East Anglia mid evening.
